Bees!

We had an interesting adventure late last week.

We were out in the side yard for a short afternoon break Boy was feeling the grass and the dog was running around. Just a nice little family break. We decided it was time to grab some dinner so we came inside to freshen up and get ready to go. A few minutes later I hear Janey say “We can’t go out there!!!”.

I went to the window to see what she was talking about and there were thousands of bees swarming our yard. I mean thousands… tons. it looked like a crazy horror movie.

So… to make a long story short, I was referred to a local bee keeper who was only too happy to come and get the colony that was trying to make my tree home.

Here’s a video of the action.

This was only the first basket of bees they pulled out of the tree. I’d say there was at least two more baskets full. Just crazy.

Loving and Loathing

I know ya’ll are jumping up and down, knocking your mouse off your desk and onto the ground or dropping your laptop from your thighs as you wiggle and giggle and cheer and “woooooo-hooooo” it, HYSTERICALLY HAPPY as I announce my Love’s and Loathe’s for this… Week? Season? Month? Who knows. Ready?

LOVING

– Online Sample Sales; Can’t get enough of them. Hautelook is by far the best and if you would like an “invite” I’d be glad to send one over to you. I suppose you can just “join”, however “joining” isn’t the same as being “invited”. It is a fact that you are special-er {it’s a word, bite me!} if you get “invited”, plus I wouldn’t get $10** if you just “joined” so c’mon! Get! “Invited”!

Other good sample sales:
Gilt Groupe
Ideeli
Billion Dollar Babes AKA Regent’s Secret.

You’re welcome.

– Snickers Blizzards from Dairy Queen. ‘Nuff said.

Alisa Michelle necklaces. And I’m not usually a jewelry-wearing kind of girl. But this. This I’ll wear. Joyously.

Nuremberg Interviews by Leon Goldensohn. I’ve only read through the first five defendants and I can already honestly say that this book will go down in the favorites. These are interviews conducted by an American psychiatrist (Leon Goldensohn) while he was monitoring the mental health of defendants and witnesses during the Nuremberg Trials. These are narratives directly from the perpetrators and the victims during the time Hitler ruled their world. So believable and yet unbelievable and at times I feel sorry for the defendants. Men, who worked hand in hand with Hitler, Himmler, and Goering to exterminate people whom were not like them because they were not like them. And it’s all here. Who they blamed, and what they claimed to not know. I could go on. Pick it up. It is magnificent.

– Tegan and Sara-Call it Off, and also {don’t judge} P!nk-Please Don’t Leave Me.

LOATHING

– This weather!! No more June Gloom, PLEASE!!! Stop crying sky, this too shall pass! Smile, just for a few several hundred days!!!

– Sadie’s decision that the basement FLOOR is the PERFECT spot to poop. Right NEXT TO her kitty litter. {And I’m just now realizing that I forgot to clean it up when I first noticed it. This morning. Ugh. I’ll do it after I finish this.}

– Teething. I wish all babies were born with teeth. But then, they’d look funny… still, that’s gotta be better than this.

– My hair. I believe a good chop is in order. I am feeling that bug to just hack it to unrecognizable lengths and shapes and colors. Oh Gods, help us all.

– Just four. For now.

Tootles.

blackbird

Had an emotional strike a few moments ago. Overwhelmed by the most wonderful memory of watching the love of my life walk down the isle to meet me. I was so taken by her that I completely missed my cue to walk out to her. She gracefully covered my shortfall without pause.

My blackbird.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise,
You were only waiting for this moment to arise,
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

Who, us?

Yes. YOU! You, the people who own this website and never use it!

Get over yourselves, you are NOT that busy. I don’t care what you say, being a new mom does not take THAT much of your time. Get off your lazy ass and post every once in awhile; every third year would suffice, really. Because SO many people want to know what is going on in your overly-simplified-too-suburnany-it’s-almost-Mr.-Rogers-Neighborhood-life. Now don’t get too crazy, we don’t wanna know what Sandy Skelkington had for breakfast or what her baby’s sleep schedule is like, you can save that for your mommy playgroup. And also, save the ever-popular, “Sorry it’s been so long” post. It’s dull, and frankly, you’re not sorry; you’ll do it again, so don’t bother. Chump.

And for the other chump, don’t think you’re off the hook just because your wife and child demand much more of your time than they should ever ought to. Just because you have a lawn to mow, and a dog to walk does not mean you can’t do a quick catch up. What the hell?? You’re on the computer like ALL day anyway, just stop by and say hi, jerk. You have an iPhone for crying out loud! And it’s not like you DON’T have anything to say, or DON’T know what to post about. Your big head is filled with loads of crap to fill a 400 seat stadium, so put it to good use. Here. Now.

When ya’ll are ready for some good ‘ol fashion kissing up, I’ll be waiting. Just post something. Sometime.

Ready To Forgive,
The Internet

for maddie

This is for maddie.

maddie

And for any and all parents who have ever felt the pain of a passing star.

Stories like this make me feel terrified and helpless. I consider myself lucky to be on the other side of the fence, and that I can say, “I can’t even imaginewhat that feels like.” I don’t ever want to know. But it breaks my heart that so many parents do. The mere thought of losing my child sends me on an emotional whirlwind that takes me a few hours to recover from. Nothing breaks my heart so completely than hearing about another set of parents who have had to say goodbye to their precious child, and for that little baby. No baby should ever have to leave this earth.

The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.

Join me on my walk in Salt Lake City on Saturday, 25 April. Or support my walk by sponsoring me through marchforbabies.org/janeyjessen. Every little bit helps.

So that no child should ever have to fight to survive.
